Hotspot of the week: Re-Source York

Re-Source York is a one-stop-shop to get a great deal on home furnishings and home building/remodeling supplies while helping the community and the environment. That’s a win-win-win! Read on to learn more.

What is Re-Source York?

Home Goods Store

Re-Source York sells gently used home furnishings at its Home Good Store located at 405 Carlisle Ave in York. Members of the community donate home furnishing and goods for the store to sell. Depending on the current inventory you can find living and dining room furniture, including couches, end tables, and dining tables. You may also find kitchen appliances and everything from dishes to home decor. Click here to view the current inventory.

Home Improvement Store

You can also find anything you may need for your home remodeling or build project at the Re-Source Home Improvement Store located at 161 East 9th Avenue in York. Again, the community donates items to be sold by Re-Source York. You will find doorknobs, hinges, doors, windows, ceiling fans, paint, and more here. You may also find sinks, cabinets, and other items for your remodel or build. We recently needed a doorknob circa the 1940s to match the existing hardware in our home. Luckily, we were able to find a close match for only a few dollars at the Re-Source York Home Improvement Store.

How Does it Work?

Re-Source York is a non-profit organization that works with Bell Socialization Services to help support the community. Bell supports the community by providing mental health and shelter services along with assisting those with intellectual disabilities. Funds made through the sale of donated items are used to fund Bell programs. Since 2009 Re-Source York has provided over $60,000 to Bell programs. Re-Source York also employs low-income disabled persons participating in Bell’s vocational rehabilitation program.

Here’s how it works: Community donates items for sale, and the community purchases these items to re-use. Re-Source York stores hire participants in Bell’s vocational rehabilitation program and return profits to Bell to support other programs. For a great visual on how Re-Source works click here.

How Can You Help?

Purchase items from either Re-Source York store. You’ll be reusing versus buying new to help the environment, and your purchase will help support Bell programs and services in the community. You can donate your household goods or furnishings you don’t need. In addition to a possible tax write-off, you can earn a 20% off coupon for either Re-Source York store when you donate.  You can also donate your time as a volunteer. Learn more about donating here.
