The city of York is the birthplace of the Articles of Confederation and the first capital of the United States of America. York has a deep history, diverse housing options, a vibrant downtown area, and a little something for everyone.

York County is home to more than 460,000 residents, including approximately 43,000 living in the city of York. York county includes the city of York, along with larger boroughs including Hanover, New Freedom, Redlion, and West York along with many other smaller boroughs. It is conveniently located in south-central Pennsylvania, an easy daily commute to Harrisburg and Baltimore and within day-trip driving distance to Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York City.

York’s economic roots are in manufacturing with companies such as Harley Davidson, BAE Systems, Voith, Snyder’s, Utz and others in the area. It is a community that knows how to work hard and play hard. There is an active and revitalized downtown area, home to great restaurants, bars, and thriving businesses. There is always something to do in York all year. York is home to the York Revolution, an independent minor league baseball team, playing in the spring and summer. Snow tubing or ice skating at Avalanche Express and skiing and snowboarding at Roundtop Mountain Resort keep you active in the winter months. Visiting one of the many parks and outdoor recreational areas is a great way to enjoy the day any time of year.

The city of York has endless dining and nightlife options for everyone. Dining options range from upscale to casual, but delicious no matter the atmosphere or price. You will find many farm to table restaurants that have been serving local food long before it became trendy.  It’s easy to find great sushi, authentic Vietnamese, traditional Mexican, and many other cultural food choices in York.

“First Friday” is a great way to get to know the city and your neighbors. The first Friday of every month from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. the city of York hosts “First Friday,” a celebration of shops, restaurants, nightlife, and other venues with special events, refreshments, promotions, and live entertainment. York County is home to many craft breweries, craft spirit distilleries, and local wineries who are a part of the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail, Susquehanna Ale Trail, and Keystone Craft Spirits Trail.

In addition to all the indoor and outdoor entertainment opportunities, York county is home to over 20 different school districts, including public, private, and charter schools, with the majority rating above average to high. The city of York is also home higher learning institutions such as Penn State York, York College, and Yorktowne Business Institute.
